| Garden Club members work with as many as 40 senior residents each month, year round. The core committee consists of 14 members (14%), with added support each month from Study Group members (5%). Projects involve the assembly of crafts using natural and live floral materials. Activities are intended to encourage appreciation of nature, as well as a sense of friendship and well-being among residents. | |||||

HENRY FORD CENTENNIAL LIBRARY - LANDSCAPE (continuing project) | ||||

| Garden Club members provide hands-on maintenance (weeding, planting, pruning, etc.) of the a small garden at the west entrance of the building, as well as six (6) containers that encircle the fountain and two (2) containers on the south side of the Library. The Club also contributes trees, which are part of the Van Mericas Arboretum, to honor 50-year members. Plantings benefit the entire community, by enhancing the space that surrounds the City’s main library -- an important cultural “centerpiece” in Dearborn. Work sessions for the 2006 season will be scheduled monthly from Spring to Fall. The project requires support of a core committee of 6-8 people and added support during selected work sessions. Landscape materials are donated by the Club. Total member participation (10-15%) | |||||

| Garden Club members are growing flowers and herbs in the Community Organic Garden at U of M, Dearborn, for use in the Horticulture Therapy projects at Oakwood Commons Skilled Nursing Center. | |||||

CONTAINER PLANTING - COMMERCIAL DISTRICT (continuing project) | ||||

Since 2003, Garden Club members have collaborated with the West Dearborn
merchant’s association to enhance the downtown area. Members participate by planting annuals
in containers which are placed by the City throughout the West Dearborn commercial district.
Approximately 15 members (15%) participate by recommending appropriate materials, and by planting the containers in May. Members also work with local area merchants to assure that container gardens are maintained throughout summer months by pruning, pinching and watering as needed. | |||||

The primary ways and means activity of Garden Club of Dearborn, this annual event includes a raffle
and silent auction with all items donated by Garden Club members and local area businesses.
Event proceeds are used to fund scholarships, to support projects and programs of the Club and
those of the Michigan Garden Clubs, Inc.
All active members are encouraged to participate. All donations by the Club are from the net proceeds of this single event (see listing of donations). | |||||
|
CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS | |||||
Donations are made each year based upon available funds. Members vote on a base operating budget
at the beginning of the fiscal year. At the conclusion of the annual fundraiser, the budget may be
revised to reflect the Club’s ability to donate funds to various institutions.
